On July 16th, there was an exchange between François Stephan, the General Director of ECE, and Nicolas Fellus, the Director of Media at Studyrama. François Stephan explained how ECE trains tomorrow’s engineers by combining several disciplines to address the current and future challenges of the digital and environmental transition. Summary.
The three pillars of digital engineering

Engineering of complex systems
François Stephan defines the engineering of complex systems as the design of systems integrating numerous digital components, such as cars, airplanes, and renewable energy distribution systems. “The engineering of complex systems is about how to design a system, a car for instance, with a lot of digital technology inside.”
Computer science and networks
Computer science and networks cover a wide range of technologies.
They include software, computing infrastructures such as cloud computing and high-performance computing; cybersecurity; blockchain; and networks.
François Stephan emphasizes the importance of these skills for digital engineers. “It’s software, but it’s also computing infrastructures like cloud computing and quantum technology.”


Data science and artificial intelligence
The third key component of digital engineering at ECE is the exploitation of data science and artificial intelligence. These fields enable engineers to process and analyze vast datasets to develop innovative and efficient solutions. “Artificial intelligence is about combining these three disciplines in service of the dual digital and environmental transition.”
Programs and Curriculum at ECE

Grande École Engineering Program
ECE offers a five-year post-baccalaureate program leading to an engineering degree. The first two years prepare students for the following three years, known as the engineering cycle, during which they can specialize and deepen their knowledge. “We have five years to lead students to an engineering degree, with an integrated preparatory cycle and an engineering cycle,” recalls François Stephan.

Bachelor’s Program in Computer Science
The Bachelor’s program, outside of Parcoursup, focuses on computer science with specializations in data, cybersecurity, and software development. It allows students to enroll throughout the year and prepare for careers in these fields in three years. “Our Bachelor’s program is focused on computer science with specializations in data, cybersecurity, or software development.”

Master’s and MSc Programs
ECE also offers Master’s and Master of Science programs, with a particular emphasis on advanced skills in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, thus addressing the growing needs of the market. “We have specialized Master’s or Master of Science programs to meet market needs.”
Innovations and adaptability of the programs

“We have course modules that allow the use of generative AI for cybersecurity defenses.”
François Stephan highlights the continuous adaptation of ECE’s programs to integrate the latest advances in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Specific modules allow students to master cybersecurity defense tools, particularly through generative AI.

“We launched our Intelligence Lab to enable students to learn artificial intelligence through hands-on practice.”
