Engineer Training Cycle – Major Defense & Technology

  • Mastering critical digital technologies for defense: cybersecurity, data, AI, embedded systems, and military networks.

  • Understand the geopolitical, strategic, and sovereignty issues that shape the needs of the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the BITD.

  • Design and manage secure information systems in environments with strict operational constraints.

  • Understand the regulatory frameworks specific to the defense sector: the Defense Programming Act (LPM), information classification, and information system security.

  • Collaborate with military personnel, defense industry representatives, and government agencies on high-impact projects.

  • Build a unique professional network in the defense sector starting with your training.

    Content

    The program relies on the interventions of numerous defense professionals and military officers, who enrich the courses with real case studies and concrete feedback. The courses presented below may evolve each year to remain aligned with the operational needs of the sector.

    60 ECTS credits/year

    Geopolitics and Strategic Issues

    • Global geopolitics and contemporary conflicts
    • Challenges of digital and technological sovereignty
    • Organization of the Ministry of Armed Forces and the Defense Industrial Base (BITD)
    • Law of armed conflicts and regulatory framework of Defense

    Digital and military information systems

    • Architecture of Defense information systems
    • Military networks and secure communications
    • Introduction to cyber security of Defense systems
    • Classification of information and defense secrecy

    Data and artificial intelligence for Defense

    • Applied data science to military operations
    • Artificial intelligence for operational decision-making
    • Electromagnetic intelligence (ELINT) – introduction
    • Signal processing and data fusion

    Management and project leadership

    • Management of industrial Defense projects
    • Management in a constrained and inter-ministerial environment
    • Communication in institutional and military contexts
    • Multidisciplinary Team Project (PPE)

    Technician Internship – minimum 4 months (in a Defense company or military organization)

    90 ECTS credits/year

    Cyber Defense and Protection of Critical Systems

    • Offensive and Defensive Cyber Defense
    • Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) and Incident Response
    • Protection of Critical Infrastructures (OIV/OSE)
    • Electronic Warfare and Countermeasures

    Weapon Systems and Defense Technologies

    • Guided weapon systems and smart munitions
    • Military drones: systems, autonomy, and swarms
    • Command and communication systems (C4ISR)
    • Military space technologies: observation, communication, navigation

    AI and Data for Operations

    • AI for threat analysis and operational decision-making
    • Big Data and intelligence analysis
    • Digital simulation and force training
    • Digital twins for defense systems

    Innovation and Technological Sovereignty

    • Innovation strategy in defense: DGA, AID, SGDSN
    • Defense startups and dual-use (civil/military)
    • Arms exports and control of sensitive technologies

    Minor and Specialization

    • Elective minor: cross-cutting technologies
    • Specialization option: promising sector or cutting-edge expertise
    • Student Projects Valorization (VPE) – IDEFI program
    • End-of-Studies Project (PFE)

    Engineering internship – minimum 6 months (in a Defense company, DGA, or military organization)

    The mandatory international academic stay will take place in the 1st or 3rd year of the Engineering cycle.

    Evaluation methods

    • Technical projects directly related to real operational issues, presented before industry professionals.
    • Visits to military and industrial sites, integrated into the module end evaluations.
    • The Multidisciplinary Team Project (PPE) and the End-of-Studies Project (PFE).
    • A minimum 6-month engineering internship in a Defense company or military organization, with a report and presentation.
    • The mandatory international academic stay, validated with a partner university of ECE.

    Prepares for employment

    • A minimum 4-month internship during the second year of an engineering program, at a defense company or with a military organization.

    • An engineering internship lasting at least 6 months during the third year of an engineering program, culminating in a final project defended before a panel.

    • Numerous meetings with active-duty military personnel, engineers from the DGA, and representatives from the defense industry.

    • Tours of operational and industrial sites: military bases, defense R&D centers, and cutting-edge industrial facilities.
