The benefits of research at ECE
Getting acquainted with research during engineering studies helps develop analytical, innovative, and problem-solving skills that are particularly sought after by companies and research laboratories.
At ECE, students can discover the scientific approach, participate in research projects, collaborate with teacher-researchers, and pave the way for pursuing doctoral studies or careers in R&D.
Discover the world of research
Two paths to start with research
Throughout their curriculum, students have two privileged entry points to discover scientific research and its methods.
The Minor in Research & Development
Accessible in 4th year, this minor introduces students to academic research, applied research, and R&D. It allows them to delve into a scientific topic and develop a genuine research mindset.
The Research & Innovation Initiation Axis (IRI)
Integrated into the Student Project Valorization program (VPE), this axis allows students to conduct research under the guidance of teacher-researchers and to showcase their results at scientific conferences.
Learn alongside researchers
A gradual immersion into research
Students enrolled in the Research & Development minor participate in numerous activities that allow them to concretely discover the workings of laboratories and research teams.
Laboratory visits
Students discover the equipment, technological platforms, and research themes of partner organizations.
Scientific Conferences
Researchers from academia and industry come to share their work, methods, and experiences.
Team Research Projects
Guided by teacher-researchers, students work on real scientific issues and develop their analytical, synthesis, and innovation skills.

Projects Leading to Publications
The Research & Innovation Initiation axis allows students to present their work in the form of scientific posters at international conferences.
Since 2014, the work carried out as part of LyRIDS has led to:
- more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals;
- more than 150 publications in international conferences.
This experience is a real asset for students wishing to pursue research or engage in R&D activities in companies.

Open new perspectives
Research internships up to a doctorate
Regular exchanges with teacher-researchers and the projects carried out during training spark numerous vocations each year.
Students can continue their journey by:
- conducting a research internship within the LyRIDS or a partner laboratory;
- continuing with a doctoral thesis;
- turning towards careers in research and development in industry or academia.
The research training model developed at ECE thus offers future engineers the opportunity to broaden their professional and academic perspectives.
