Systems that run the world
What is the Engineering Industry & Engineering sector ?
Ubiquitous systems, rare expertise
An embedded system is hidden everywhere: in your smartphone, your car, a credit card, or a satellite. These devices combine electronics and computing in highly constrained environments: low power consumption, limited memory, real-time operation, robustness, and security.
In a context of global competitiveness, engineers who can design these systems are among the most sought-after profiles in the industry. Aerospace, defense, healthcare, transportation, and consumer electronics are heavily recruiting these specialized skills.
The Embedded Systems Major at ECE trains you to master the entire chain, from hardware to software, including critical architectures and virtualization.
- Embedded Linux and real-time systems
- Microcontrollers and FPGA/VHDL
- Development of electronic systems
- Advanced embedded architectures
- Parallel programming
- Cybersecurity of embedded systems
Coexisting critical and non-critical applications
Software and hardware virtualization is one of the most complex challenges of modern embedded systems. It allows critical and non-critical applications to coexist on the same chip while ensuring robustness, integrity, and confidentiality of data.
In 3rd year, you will deepen your knowledge in Low Energy Firmware architectures, parallel programming, and embedded cybersecurity. You will also learn to work with the Android system, develop embedded Java applications, and integrate complete systems in a workshop setting.
These skills are directly applicable in critical sectors such as defense, aerospace, or industrial robotics, where the reliability of embedded software is an absolute requirement.
- Cybersecurity and system security
- Low Energy Firmware Architecture
- Parallel programming
- Embedded Android system
- Embedded Java
- System integration workshop

Projects are at the heart of the curriculum for the Industry & Engineering stream. Throughout the training, you work on concrete cases drawn from industrial and digital realities.
In the Embedded Systems Major, projects focus on designing embedded architectures, developing real-time software, and integrating complex systems.
These projects take place in teams, in conditions similar to those encountered in companies. Two synthesis seminars in design thinking mode conclude the Engineering & Product Design Major, allowing for the development of an innovative service from start to finish. In the Embedded Systems Major, a system integration workshop at the end of the course validates all acquired skills.
Yes. The Embedded Systems major is available full-time and in a work-study format on the Paris campus. This rhythm allows you to alternate training periods and immersion in the company, to build a solid professional experience while completing your engineering diploma from ECE.
The work-study program is particularly suited to this specialty. The tasks assigned to work-study students focus on areas that are highly sought after by industrial companies:
- Development and testing of embedded software.
- Integration and validation of system architectures.
- Management of electronic systems production projects.
- Participation in embedded mechanics and robotics projects.
- Contribution to quality and system performance programs.
Most work-study students receive a job offer at the end of their contract. The network of 10,000 partner companies of ECE facilitates the search for a host company.
The Industry & Engineering pathway covers a wide range of sciences and technical disciplines.
In Major Embedded Systems, the courses are based on electronics, real-time computing, industrial network sciences, and embedded systems mechanics. The technical requirements are high, with consistent progression.
At the end of the program, your engineering diploma from ECE positions you for high value-added jobs in very diverse sectors. The Major in Embedded Systems leads to positions as systems expert, embedded software architect, or integration and validation specialist.
Both specialties prepare you to work in demanding international environments: defense, aerospace, automotive, healthcare, digital supply chain, deeptech startups, and large digital companies.
Yes. The teachings of both majors are provided in French and English, directly preparing students to thrive in international professional environments. Embedded systems and digital product management are global specialties: the standards, tools, and practices you master apply everywhere.
ECE relies on a network of 142 partner universities across 4 continents. International double degrees allow you to enrich your study abroad experience and develop a global vision of industrial and digital engineering. These opportunities strengthen your profile in the international job market and facilitate access to large technology companies worldwide.
Students who thrive in this field have a strong taste for sciences, technology, and solving complex problems.
In the Major of Embedded Systems, an aptitude for programming, electronics, and systems mechanics is essential.
The Industry & Engineering track is accessible in the 4th year of the ECE Engineering Cycle. Admissions for initial training are made through the Avenir competition. Applications for the Work-Study program in the Embedded Systems Major are submitted directly on the ECE platform, outside of Parcoursup.
Your application is evaluated based on several criteria:
- Your academic background and your level in sciences.
- Your professional project in the fields of industry or digital.
- Your motivation for the chosen specialty.
- Your ability to envision yourself in a demanding technical environment.
The school studies each profile individually. A motivation interview completes the evaluation of the file before any admission decision.
The engineering degree from ECE recognized by the CTI is a level Bac+5 title. It grants access to pursue a doctorate, a research program, or a specialized master’s degree at partner schools and universities in France and internationally. Pathways exist toward advanced training in embedded artificial intelligence, innovation management, or industrial quality management.
ECE also offers complementary MSc programs in this field, including the MSc in Artificial Intelligence, to deepen knowledge of AI applications in embedded systems and product architectures. These study pathways accelerate access to responsible positions in large schools of the global technology industry.
Yes. The Major in Embedded Systems includes teachings directly related to industrial production: industrial local networks, development of electronic systems, and visits to partner industries. These courses prepare you to work in complex production environments, where performance, reliability, and quality of embedded systems are non-negotiable requirements.
