A golden opportunity
This Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 2 PM marked the grand final of the tournament between higher education schools organized by the Île-De-France Region. A golden opportunity for our student-athletes to shine from a different perspective than that of digital engineering; this is indeed the first time our Basketball team has qualified for the finals since its inception. Let’s take a moment to look more closely at this meeting that kept players and supporters on edge.
Arrival and pre-match: the experience of a spectator
Let’s step into the shoes of a spectator.
Arriving at 1:50 PM, our blue magicians finish their warm-up. The supporters of ECE, under the banner of the ECE Ultra association, are already starting the festivities; distributing ECE t-shirts and cheat sheets to review the chants before the match starts, all fueled by the loud microphone of our dear Balthazar Augier, president of the Ultras association. The dancers from the ECE Pompom association on the upper stage chant the names of our future champions.

The Free Institute of Higher Physical Education, encouraged by their own supporters: the tension between the two teams is palpable. The clash between a team of future sports professionals facing our future engineers; the collective imagination would like the favorites to be the players of ILEPS. The ECE Blue Magic is well aware of this but there is no room for doubt. The match begins.

Our players hit hard right from the start and open a 10-point lead against their opponents. A sensational start that puts pressure on our adversaries and allows our team to maintain a calmer game while keeping this gap intact… Not at all! Our magicians continued to strike hard where it hurts with aggressive play, each player using their best asset to lead their team to victory. A domination that allowed our blue magicians to lead 36 to 24 at halftime despite the efforts of ILEPS’s number 2.
The second period of the match begins
The entry onto the field of ILEPS’s number 26 catches up their deficit: only five points difference between the two teams. ECE still has the advantage, but barely. Our players decide to double down and deliver one of the most impressive sports performances offered since the beginning of the championship.
We will remember the exceptional defense of Alexis, the liveliness and speed of Théo, the ever more inventive breakthroughs of Hugues, the precise and incisive shots of Arthur who kept scoring three-pointers, and the incredible dunk of Tidiane which ignited the stadium like the showman he is, and which was the turning point for our opponents as it dealt a heavy blow to their morale. So it was a team synergy that definitively sealed the hopes of our adversaries with a final score of 71 to 49.

A sporting adventure indeed, but above all human that allowed our students, as well as the entire ECE community, to feel the thrill of a high-stakes final and the pride of a victory won through perseverance and hard work. You beautifully embody the values of ECE, and we are all very proud to have followed you throughout this competition. Congratulations !
