The ECE research center was created in 2004 by Laurent George and named LACSC(Laboratoire Analyse et Contrôle des Systèmes Complexes). In 2017, it was named the ECE Research Center.

The ECE research center has a new name: LyRIDS (Laboratory of Research in Interdisciplinary Digital Engineering and Sciences) , which corresponds to a swarm of shooting stars and characterizes the interdisciplinary activities of the research center.
The new name is accompanied by a new logo, designed by Agence Bisart, featuring :
- A graphic typography representing cosmic radiation.
- A representation of the word LyRIDS using shooting stars.
- The stars are a nod to the lexical field of the galaxy.
