Looking back on this year 2023 !

The ECE Engineering School, renowned for its commitment to academic excellence, sustainable industrial partnerships, and digital innovation, houses the LyRIDS research center at the heart of its campus. (Laboratory of Research in Interdisciplinary Digital Engineering & Sciences). A true epicenter of creativity and scientific progress in the fields of computer sciences, physics, and mathematics applied to the digital transformations of our time, it brings together 19 researchers from various backgrounds and disciplines.

The LyRIDS develops its expertise in the field of engineering sciences, specifically in Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies, Intelligent Communicating Systems, and Mathematical Methods for Scientific and Financial Engineering. These three fields also collaborate on an interdisciplinary research program (PI-ECE) to better address the challenges of the revolution in artificial intelligence, data capture, processing, and security.

A modest-sized team with quality contributions

The LyRIDS, through its determination and the commitment of its teacher-researchers to scientific excellence and the transmission of knowledge relevant to current challenges, is a legitimate player in the academic landscape of engineering schools. This desire to push the boundaries of knowledge translates into a remarkable increase in the number of classified publications emanating from our institution. These have tripled in the span of a year. It is noteworthy that all belong to Q1 and Q2-ranked journals (SJR), a sign of the quality of the 2023 productions.

The scientific impact of the ECE Engineering School is clearly perceptible in renowned and widely distributed journals such as Plos One; Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks; or Neurocomputing, and thanks to the participation of both researchers and their best students from the Engineering program in prestigious international conferences.

This level of excellence significantly attests to the determining role of the Research Center in this success, providing substantial resources, state-of-the-art laboratories, and exceptional guidance for both permanent researchers and promising students.

The popularization of research is also an important concern for Lyrids to develop a true scientific spirit within Society. Researchers are therefore eager to disseminate their work and expertise in accessible media for all, such as The Conversation, the press, or national radios (l’Express, RTL, Le Parisien …).

An environment conducive to innovation

The culture of innovation is deeply rooted in the DNA of LyRIDS. Research teams, composed of seasoned teacher-researchers and passionate students, historically collaborate with key companies in the digital engineering sector and laboratories of the best French universities and schools to address complex challenges in various scientific and technical fields.

Researchers at the center have access to cutting-edge facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, and strategic partnerships with the industry. These exceptional resources enable the transformation of projects into tangible and useful achievements for the industrial world, thereby strengthening the reputation of the ECE School of Engineering as a major player in innovation.

Numerous project topics are proposed each year to students enrolled in the R&D Minor, encouraging them to showcase their work in the module “Initiation Research & Innovation,” concerning various sectors of activity such as: health & well-being, the environment, transport & mobility, or robotics.

Below are some examples of topics studied this year:

  • Prediction of cognitive failures in an operator,
  • The identification and measurement of stress using machine learning,
  • Graphene-based sweat sensor,
  • An IoT platform for agroecology,
  • Urban and resilient ecology,
  • Modeling digital sobriety,
  • Reimagining back-and-forth commuting in urban transport,
  • Detection of cyberattacks in military vehicles,
  • Optimization of drone placement in the smart city.

A faculty always in motion

The LyRIDS has been a hub of continuous activity throughout the year 2023, as evidenced by the captivating scientific events organized in 2023. These initiatives covered a variety of formats, including interactive workshops promoting hands-on learning, stimulating research seminars, and presentations of innovative projects led by students or researchers. By creating a dynamic environment, LyRIDS, in collaboration with all the professors and stakeholders of the School, has succeeded in establishing a culture of research and innovation to address contemporary issues in Industry and Services.
