LyRIDS (Laboratory of Research in Interdisciplinary Digital Engineering & Sciences)
Founded in 2004, LyRIDS consists of 43 members, whose skills cover a wide spectrum from computer science and artificial intelligence (AI) to mathematics and physics.
In January 2026, LyRIDS underwent an evaluation by the High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES), demonstrating its presence in the landscape of research and higher education. The missions of LyRIDS
The main missions of LyRIDS are:
- to develop training through research, involving students in the laboratory’s scientific projects and activities
- to promote interdisciplinarity in research, by bringing together different disciplines, skills, and scientific approaches
Research in service of humanity and its environment
The work carried out within LyRIDS addresses major scientific and technological challenges of the digital world, in service of humanity and its environment.
The structuring of activities around an interdisciplinary program promotes scientific collaborations and the creation of projects at the intersection of several fields. The laboratory develops an active partnership policy with public laboratories and industrial players.
The laboratory deploys its activities across all current sites of the ECE: Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Rennes, and Marseille.
Research in service of engineering education
Training engineers in research
Training engineers in and for research is a central mission of LyRIDS. The laboratory thus enriches educational models and contributes to the dissemination of scientific culture among ECE engineering students.
Students at the heart of research
Students participate in laboratory visits, workshops, and scientific meetings led by the teachers-researchers from LyRIDS and partner researchers, with support on research projects to get acquainted with the researcher profession.
Paths to internships and PhD
These actions enhance the attractiveness of research within the school and promote continued studies in research internships and PhDs. Every year, more than 200 engineering students are thus made aware of research.
A dynamic doctoral policy
Regarding the doctoral policy, this dynamism is reflected in the fact that 50% of the theses at LyRIDS are completed by former engineering students from ECE. Since 2017, LyRIDS has supervised and funded 30 theses, 21 of which have been defended.
Disseminating and sharing scientific culture
LyRIDS places significant importance on mediation and the dissemination of scientific knowledge to students and the scientific community:
The Young Researchers’ Day (JJC):
held annually, highlights the work of young researchers from LyRIDS through workshops and poster presentations.
The Research Thursdays:
seminars and scientific meetings are held every month. They take the form of thematic presentations proposed by laboratory members or invited researchers.
The HAL collection
the laboratory of ECE sciences includes 430 publications from the staff of LyRIDS (number at the end of September 2026).
Join a major scientific network
Collaborative research in France and internationally
LyRIDS maintains close ties with numerous academic laboratories, research organizations, and industrial partners.
These collaborations promote the co-construction of scientific projects, co-supervision of doctoral students, and the publication of joint research works.

Diverse professional paths in research and innovation
Among the graduates who completed a research and development (R&D) program at ECE, 22% currently hold positions in academia or in R&D, and 78% work in industry (outside R&D).
The latest survey dedicated to the career paths of former PhD students from LyRIDS shows that 53% of them continue their careers in academia, while 45% work in industry.
These results testify to the attractiveness of the training in and through research offered by LyRIDS and its ability to encourage ECE engineering graduates to continue their path in the field of research and innovation.
Recognized scientific governance
The Scientific Council of ECE
The Scientific Council supports the school’s research strategy and contributes to the scientific impact of LyRIDS. Chaired by Pierre Guillon, Professor at the University of Limoges, it brings together recognized academic, institutional, and industrial experts.
